China Eastern Airlines Co. Ltd, (in simplified Chinese中国东方航空股份有限公司) or Eastern Airlines for short, is one of the major airlines in China. It is also China’s second largest state-owned aviation enterprise. The headquarter of Eastern Airlines is located in Shanghai and it has the code MU.

Nowadays, the China Eastern Airlines Corporation is formed from the original basis of the China Eastern Airlines, which mergers with China Northwest Airlines, United Airlines of Yunnan. Together with Air China Limited and China Southern Airlines Company Limited, they are collectively referred to as China’s three largest aviation groups. There are always long route flights planned by these companies because they have the ability to organize some long route flights.

The main models of the plans of Eastern Airlines include A300, A320, A330, A340, Boeing 737, Boeing 767, MD-90 and CRJ-200, ERJ-145 and so on. In addition to domestic routes, there are also flights connecting Shanghai to other places in the whole world. Therefore, it is one of the favorite airlines chosen by people who would like to travel to and fro Shanghai from other parts of the world.

In September 2, 2007, China Eastern Airlines signed a framework agreement with the Singapore Airlines and the Singapore’s Temasek Holdings. Through the issuance of H shares in Hong Kong, they become strategic partners. The total share of capital of H shares of Singapore Airlines and Temasek holdings respectively accounted for 15.7% and 8.3%. Sadly, this agreement was eventually turned down due to opposition from China International Aviation. In July 31, 2008, China Eastern Airlines announced that it would, after the Olympic Games in Beijing, re-negotiate with Singapore Airlines relating to sale of shares.

In July 13, 2009, China Eastern Airlines announced that it would spend nine billion yuan to fully acquire Shanghai Airlines, and will re-issue new shares. On the same day, the Eastern Airlines is re-listed on the HKEx. This marked the rapid development of the Eastern Airlines because with more capital, it could provide better services to its customers.
