Beijing Capital International Airport (in simplified Chinese北京首都国际机场), or Capital Airport for short, is China’s main international airport which connects Chinese people to the outside world. It is also China’s busiest commercial airport and also the vase of Air China. The ICAO code of this airport is ZBAA while the IATA code of Capital Airport is PEK.
In 2004, the Beijing Capital International Airport replaced the Narita International Airport and became the busiest airport in Asia in terms of aircraft movements. In 2006, the passenger throughout of Beijing Capital International Airport has become second in Asia, just after Haneda Airport. Moreover, it ranks 9th in the world. Of course, as the busiest airport in the world, Capital Airport would not just stop at this position. With rapid development of China, the airport also received a very rapid development. In 2008, the Beijing Capital International Airport’s passenger throughput had reached 55.66 million passengers, which had an increase of 4.3%, ranking the 8th among all of the airports in the world. Just one year later, from 2009 January to March, the Beijing Capital International Airport passenger throughput had reached 20.68 million passengers, with an increase of 20.0%, becoming the world’s No. 2, which is also the first in Asia.
Beijing Capital International Airport is located in the northeast of Beijing, in the Shunyi District and Chaoyang District. The airport is 25.35 kilometers from Tiananmen Square and it has two towers, and 3 terminals, namely T1, T2 and T3 terminal.
In fact, the history of Beijing Capital International Airport is very old. It was opened in 1958. Of course, throughout the years, a lot of construction and renovation had been done to this airport so that the equipment as well as the service provided by this airport could make the development pace of the world’s airports. With construction of new terminals, Beijing Capital International Airport is able to accommodate more and more flights as well as passengers so that Beijing would have more connections to other parts of the world.
