Hong Kong Airlines (in simplified Chinese香港航空) is a Hong Kong-based airline founded in 2001. It was formerly known as CR Airways. In September 30, 2006, the CR Airways was officially renamed as the Hong Kong Airlines.

Currently, Hong Kong Airlines is providing routes running from Hong Kong to mainland China in Sanya, Haikou, Kunming, Nanning, Guilin, Guiyang, Xiamen, Changsha and Hangzhou. There are also flights flying from Hong Kong to Hanoi in Vietnam. Therefore, we could say that Hong Kong Airlines is a major airline providing air services in the coastal regions of China. And from the fact that it is starting to provide some flights services to Vietnam, we could see that the company is developing quite well and it would be able to become an airline providing services to other parts of the world if the development plan of the company is under good control.

In the future, Hong Kong Airlines has purchased 30 aircrafts from Boeing company. When all the aircrafts arrive at the company, the quality of service provided by the company is expected to be better because at present, there are quite a lot of places and routes but there is not enough number of planes to support and there are often flight delays, making passengers feeling dissatisfied.

Of course, in order to attract people to use the service of Hong Kong Airlines, the company had cooperated with many travel agents in Hong Kong and provides some cheap tickets. Some tickets are as low as $500 for a flight between Xiamen and Hong Kong. This is definitely welcomed by Hong Kong people. Therefore, with the introduction of more aircrafts, it is expected that the company would become more competitive in Hong Kong and would become more and more welcomed by Hong Kong people.

Besides introduction of new aircraft, the company should also try to ensure that it is safe for the passengers to travel. This is also a vital factor for people to choose a air service provider in Hong Kong, and even in the world.

People who have used the services provided by Cathay Pacific (in simplified Chinese国泰航空有限公司) would probably agree that the services are really bravo. You could play a lot of interactive games on the planes and there would be a lot of drinks and food ready for you to order. Besides, the flight meals provided by Cathay Pacific are also delicious too. Therefore, even though the tickets of this company is a bit higher than other airlines, many people, especially businessmen, would still be willing to purchase and enjoy the top quality of service, making their air journey wonderful instead of boring.

However, in order to maintain such high quality of service, Cathay Pacific has to spend quite a lot of money. In recent years, the oil price is kept increasing, adding burden to all airlines. Being one of the sufferers, Cathay Pacific needed to introduce some special levy to reduce the extra spending on the purchase of oil, the fuel of aircraft in which without it, you could not run your airline. Sadly, at the late 2008, the worldwide financial crisis comes, making the problem more and more serious. As mentioned above, the target customer of Cathay Pacific is people with high-earnings. These people would usually be investors, holding different kinds of shares, futures, etc, and they would be the ones who suffer the most in this financial storm.

As a result, the passenger flow of Cathay Pacific dropped drastically and it had incurred the worst annual loss in 2008. In order to reduce the cost, one of the measured adopted by the management was that all staff would need to have leave without pay. Such measure echoed a lot of angry sounds from the staff. Some of them even threaten that they would strike to express their anger because the company should not do this when the staff their own are also affect by the financial storm.

Luckily, with commitments, the two parties reached agreement and the incident was settled. Otherwise, the reputation of Cathay Pacific would surely be lost.

Nowadays, the famous Cathay Pacific Airways (in simplified Chinese国泰航空有限公司) is headquartered in Cathay Pacific City at Chek Lap Kok’s Hong Kong International Airport. It was put into use in July 1998. Locating in such a famous international city, Hong Kong, it clearly shows that Cathay Pacific is a very great airline and it is having great influence over the development of Hong Kong. In fact, without Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong was not able to develop very rapidly in the 1980s because Cathay Pacific’s high quality of services brings a lot of foreigners to Hong Kong and without this, Hong Kong might not be so well known and industries like financial industry and tourism might all not be able to be so rapid and supportive to Hong Kong nowadays.

Therefore, Cathay Pacific does contribute a lot to the development of Hong Kong. On the other hand, the company is always trying to support different events in Hong Kong to show that it is thankful for the city to bring the fame of the company too!

For example, even Lunar New Year, Cathay Pacific would be the chief sponsor of the New Year Parade. Moreover, if you try to see some sports event in Hong Kong Stadium, it is not hard for you to discover that there would be banners of Cathay Pacific. Yes, Cathay Pacific is one of the sponsors of many sports events.

Of course, I would not say that this is not a kind of business sales strategy. With more and more exposure of the company’s logo to the public, there is a higher chance that people would love the good image of the company and purchase the services of the company. However, another thing we should note is that the company is founded in Hong Kong, and is becoming successful in Hong Kong. Therefore, it is one of the great marks of Hong Kong and so, it is quite make sense that Cathay Pacific would support Hong Kong to develop some leisure events and bring fun to Hong Kong people.

Being the first air service provider, Cathay Pacific (in simplified Chinese国泰航空有限公司) has a very long history.

Cathay Pacific Airways was registered at September 24, 1946 in Hong Kong by the United States-born Roy C Farrell and Australian Sydney H. De Kantzow. At first, they were actually businessmen from Shanghai who operated a firm called “O-Wah Import and Export Trading”. However, since the Chinese government was practicing protectionism, the two men decided to close their business in Shanghai and operate Cathay Pacific Airways in Hong Kong.

In 1958, Cathay Pacific Airways in Hong Kong was invited to operate some routes originally run by the previous Air Hong Kong, including flights to Taipei, Tokyo and Seoul. In 1980s, as the economic development of Hong Kong was getting more and more rapid, Cathay Pacific was also able to develop at full speed and by this golden chance, the company was able to establish an international route network. In 1988, Cathay Pacific even introduced a Boeing 747-400 passenger plane, which is one of the first airlines in the world introducing this jumbo jet.

In the 1980s, the Hong Kong Government announced that for every route of flight, there would only be one company operating. This aviation policy is very beneficial to Cathay Pacific because at that time, Cathay Pacific had been developing quite well and it had a rich background and resources to obtain the routes’ license. Therefore, it is able to beat down the rival, Dragonair, and develop into such a successful airline.

Of course, besides this exclusive right, Cathay Pacific itself has also done a lot of things to improve the quality of services. For example, it is quite harsh to its crew members. There would be annual assessment on every crew member and there would not be any chance for those who receive too many complaints to fly again. Of course, in order to get talents, the welfare system of Cathay Pacific was also quite well at that time and many people would like to be part of this team.

Cathay Pacific Airways Limited (in simplified Chinese国泰航空有限公司), or Cathay Pacific for short, is a very famous Asian airline which is having a base at Hong Kong International Airport. It also acts as a hub connecting Hong Kong to different parts of the world. It is the biggest airline in Hong Kong and even in Asia and being this, Cathay Pacific is an important member of Oneworld.

Cathay Pacific Airways in 2003, 2005, 2009 had received Skytrax assessment and became the world’s best airline. Cathay Pacific’s core business is operating scheduled air services, airline catering, aircraft handling and aircraft engineering. The company has several subsidiaries, including Hong Kong Dragon Airlines.

Cathay Pacific Airways Limited is registered in Hong Kong, and it is one of the large companies listed in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The present chairman of the company is Mr. Pratt. Until October 27, 2008, the market value of Cathay Pacific Airways Limited amounted to 35.43 billion Hong Kong dollars, equivalent to 4.571 billion U.S. dollars. However, the company incurred a loss of 8.558 billion dollars in the annual year of 2008, which is also the worst annual loss over the years of the company’s history. Since then, Cathay Pacific announced several measures to reduce the cost of operations, including reducing the growth plan in 2009, the sale Cathay Pacific Airways fleet of five Boeing 777-200 aircrafts, the delay of the construction of the cargo terminal in Hong Kong International Airport, etc. All these were expected to reduce the cost of the operation of the business, but whether they are effective or not, we need to wait for a few quarters of a year and see the reports.

In fact, despite the fact that Cathay Pacific was trying to reduce the growth plan, it is still trying to provide better services by adding new aircraft, including order of 30 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. It is expected that in the foreseeable future, this kind of plane would be the main aircraft of the team of Cathay Pacific.

Yangtze River Express Airlines Co., Ltd., or Yangtze River Express Airline for short, was founded by Hainan Airlines Group, in 2002. It is China’s second-cargo airlines. The company has a registered capital of 0.5 billion yuan, of which Hainan Airlines Group holds 85% of the shares and Hainan Airlines holds 5%. Lastly, the Shanghai Airport Group holds 10%.

In 2006, there was a transfer of shares among companies and some new companies got the shares of Yangtze River Express Airline. However, it does not affect the operation system of Yangtze River Express Airline as well as the business direction. Therefore, Yangtze River Express Airline was still developing in a quite reasonable rate. Of course, as there are some large airlines being the shareholders of this Yangtze River Express Airline, the source of customers would not pose a problem. For example, If the passengers of Hainan Airlines want to deliver some products in bulk from their existing place to their desired destination, Yangtze River Express Airline would get this task because Hainan Airlines is not very specialist in doing this so that they would forward this business to Yangtze River Express Airline. As mentioned before, this kind of strategic partners is very common in China and even in the world so since Yangtze River Express Airline, they would not need to worry that the business turnover of the company would be too low.

Of course, in some circumstances, Yangtze River Express Airline would also be used by the authority to deliver products. For example, if there are natural hazards like earthquake occurred in certain place in China and the authority urgently need aircrafts to deliver materials to the places, cargo airlines like Yangtze River Express Airline would be called for doing this task. This could also increase the fame of Yangtze River Express Airline and make it become more popular and well-known.

Spring Airlines (in simplified Chinese春秋航空公司) was the first airline established under the form of sole proprietorship at the beginning and the source of capital was from private individual. Of course, as the company was getting more and more busy and the capital involved increases day by day, the Spring Airlines has become a company with more than one shareholders. In May 26, 2004, after approval of the Chinese Civil Aviation Administration, the establishment of the Spring Airlines was started and after about a year or so, the company was set up and it got a successful first flight.

Spring Airlines is based in Shanghai and the board chairman now is Wang Zhenghua. Airline code of Spring Airline is 9C and it is the only airline in China which is not participating in China’s civil aviation network sales system (CRS). Yes, it is a popular airline but it does not join this system, why? The answer is quite simple, it is because the airline is having its own system of selling tickets. It is an airline which is selling cheap tickets and nearly all flight tickets are cheaper than other airlines by about 30%. In other parts of the world, such kind of airlines is quite common but in China, this idea is innovative.

In fact, there is also something more innovative. In June 26, 2009, Spring Air announced the availability of standing place provided with safety belts for passengers. That means, you could take a flight by standing on the plane! Well, it is not very comfortable, especially for long flight, but as Spring Airlines mainly provides short flights, and the price would be much cheaper due to the fact that standing places would make the capacity of the plane become more, some people would like to have a trial.

Spring Airlines is using Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport as the main landing airport, and most of the routes provided are domestic routes. Therefore, with innovative ideas, it is expected that the company would become more and more famous in the world.

Okay Airlines (in simplified Chinese奥凯航空公司) is China’s first airline established by private company. The base of Okay Airlines is located in Tianjin Binhai International Airport. The IATA code of the Okay Airlines is BK, while the ICAO code is OKA.

Okay Airlines was founded in June 2004. In February 2005, it obtained an operating license from the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China and in March 11, 2005, Okay Airways has performed its maiden voyage. In December 2, 2008, arguments arose between the shareholders and the management authority of the company, therefore, due to the fears that this problem would affect the normal operation of the company, the China’s civil aviation authority required the Okay Airlines to suspend flights for one month between December 15 to January 15 of the next year. Eventually, things get settled down and the company was allowed to provide flights again.

In fact, Okay Airlines is having a lot of business partners all over the world and Fedex is one of them. FedEx relies on Okay Airlines to provide flights resources to provide the domestic express service in China and the two parties had signed an agreement which was valid for 5 years. The new domestic express business was put into operation in June 2007 in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Foshan, Ningbo. According to the service term, the team would be providing delivery service the next day after they receive the documents from the clients. However, as mentioned above, the Okay Airlines was suspended for flights in late 2008 and so, Fedex terminated the cooperation with Okay Airlines. Now, it is expected that Okay Airlines would keep on negotiating with the Fedex to seek any possibilities to resume their cooperation.

In fact, in order to provide better services, Okay Airlines are introducing some new aircrafts which are invented by Chinese company. This lowers the cost for acquiring aircrafts and so more money could be spent on making the services of the company better and better. Thus, it is expected that Okay Airlines would be more successful in the future.

East Star Airlines (in simplified Chinese 东星航空) is an airline owned by private company. In the May 16, 2005, it was approved by the China Civil Aviation Administration for the China East Star Group Co., Ltd., Wuhan East Star International Travel Co., Ltd., Hubei Dongsheng Real Estate Co., Ltd. and Hubei Tourism Investment Co., Ltd. to jointly establish the company. The East Star Airline has a base and headquarters located in Wuhan. Besides, it also has a base in Guangzhou. It shows that the Airlines is of a quite large scale and there are a lot of people regarding this airline as major airlines providing domestic routes in China.

Yes, East Star Airlines mainly engages in domestic routes. However, as the company is gradually developing, in November 6, 2007, it was allowed to open up some non-stop, direct flights from Wuhan to Hong Kong, Macau. Besides, East Star Airlines is undergoing co-operation with China Airlines in Taiwan to allow passengers to fly to Taiwan via Hong Kong route. There is only one flight per day, so usually the seats would be fully booked. Recently, East Star Airlines has been allowed to open up routes in Singapore, Thailand, etc. Therefore, there was no doubt that this company was having a great potential to grow and become the top airline in terms of domestic and regional route providers.

However, in March 15, 2009, East Star Airlines was suspended by the Civil Aviation Authority, to provide flight services in Central South region because, according to some news, the East Star company was running short in capital. Many people believed that the company was trying to develop and expend but the rate was just too rapid and the company could not afford the quick turnover of capital so that it is running short of capital.

Recently, the East Star Airlines is discussing with the China National Aviation Group to see whether there could be introduction of capital to the company. It is expected that the introduction would be successful and soon East Star Airlines would be able to provide flight services again.
