Wuyishan Airport (in simplified Chinese武夷山机场), formerly known as Sung Airport, is the only airport in Wuyishan City of Fujian Province. Since Wuyishan City is one of the most favorite tourist sites in China, many people would use the services provided by this airport. It is also the base of Xiamen Airlines, one of the famous domestic airlines in China. The IATA code of this airport is WUS, while the ICAO code of it is ZSWY.
Wuyishan Airport is located in the Wuyi village at high street in Wuyishan City, covering an area of 2800 mu. The runway length and width of this airport is 2400 × 45 m, and the pavement strength according to TCN quality was recorded as grade 48. The new apron of Wuyishan Airport had an area of 18,000 square meters, which can accommodate Boeing 737 and MD -80 aircraft. Wuyishan airport was built in August 1958. The location of this airport was originally the former back-up airport for the Air Force 2 of China. In August 1991, Wuyishan Airport expansion project was officially approved and it was started in July 13, 1992. In November 1993, the construction of the Wuyishan Airport was completed and put into use. This expansion project involved a total investment of 96 million RMB, and the designed annual throughput was 42 million passengers. According to the standard of the Civil Aviation, this was a 4C-class airport. This expanded Wuyishan Airport was very large and there were a lot of comprehensive services provided and the airport was quite advanced.
